I USE UV/OZONE
Pool water is circulated through the chamber where it is sterilized to the quality of drinking water and then returned to the pool.
The system automatically regulates water flow through the chamber for maximum sterilization and minimum impact on other equipment. Engineered for use with single, dual and variable speed pumps
Uses no chemicals, minerals or metals, just pure light and pure oxygen.
Trouble Shooting UV/Ozone
While UV and Ozone systems can greatly reduce the amount of chlorine required to keep a pool clean, they cannot completely replace pool sanitizers. You will still need a testable amount of sanitizer to maintain trouble free water.
Likewise, you will need to oxidize (shock) the water occasionally.

Most issues involve cloudy water and are the result of two sources.
-
Mechanical
-
Lack of proper chemical maintenance
Mechanical Issues:
-
Is the UV light/Ozone working?
-
Is the filter clean?
-
Is there enough circulation (pump on a sufficient speed)?
Chemical Issues:
-
No sanitizer in the water
-
Heavy bather load, not enough oxidizer (shock)
-
Out of balance pH
Mechanical
Issues
-
Check the display on your system. If the lights are flashing, you have an issue.
-
Light bulbs also require replacement, typically every year or two.
-
What is the pressure of the system when the pump is on high speed? (read this on the filter). If the pressure is over 20psi, clean the filter. If after cleaning the pressure remains high, you may need new filter cartridges or a sand change.
-
Are you running the pump at a sufficient speed for a sufficient amount of time to clean the water?
Chemical Issues
While these systems, all brands all styles, advertise they produce drinking water quality results, the fact is that once you introduce external factors like swimmers, you are no longer in a controlled environment.
If a bird flies over your pool and goes poo poo in it, you have to deal with it and I'm sure the drinking water factory does not allow ducks to swim in their facility.
So while the system might be working just fine, these "wild cards" can overcome any system. Swimmers, animals and external environmental forces like air pollution make it impossible for any device not in a sealed environment to work alone.
The sanitizer part of your routine must be maintained is a sufficient amount to overcome these external factors. Even drinking water contains about 0.5ppm chlorine and your pool should have no less.
Most cloudy water causes are due to low sanitizer and a build up of bacteria.
Similarly, the amount of oxidizer required will vary. When anything gets into the water, it must be killed and removed. A buildup of dead bacteria, algae or bather waste that passes right through the filter will cause cloudy water if not chemically burned out by oxidizer.
The first thing we always recommend in cloudy water situations is to shock the water.
Out of balance water can also be a factor. Test and balance your water at least once per month.
